Rare British Propeller from a Sopwith Pup c1917 (Stock No: 0898)  SOLD

Drawing No:  P3012
Diameter:  2550mm
Pitch:  2610mm
Engine:  100hp Monosoupape Gnome

Sopwith Pup Prop Stock No 898

This prop is made to a Bristol design (British & Colonial) that was used for the Bristol Scout, the Sopwith Bantam and the Sopwith Scout, all with the 100hp one-valve Gnome engine.

898

This prop is marked for the Sopwith Scout, which was the official name for what everyone else called the Sopwith Pup.  Introduced in 1916, it proved to be the most delightful pilots’ aircraft of the war and is primarily associated with the RNAS where it shot down twenty German aircraft in less than two months with No 8 Naval Squadron on its introduction in November 1916.  About 1770 were produced.

Sopwith Pup Prop Stock No 898

This propeller is in superb restored condition with fabric to the tips and Bristol decals on both blades.  It is marked for the Gnome 100 hp engine.  The vast majority of pups were equipped with 80hp engines and the 100hp Gnome was only used in Home Defence squadrons, formed to counter the threat of bombing raids by Zeppelin airships and Gotha bombers, making this flown prop a very rare example.
